Edge Friction by Leticia Bajuyo is a site-specific installation of large-scale, interactive walls, ceilings, horns and tubes made primarily of CD’s and DVD’s. The memory discs are woven together and attached to aluminum or wooden frames to form various shapes. The shimmering structures are suspended from the ceiling, attached to false walls and wheels, or simply hung on the wall. Interactive audio elements heighten the experience. Bajuyo will present gallery talks and workshops throughout the run of the show. Edge Friction will evolve into a new shape to be unveiled during ArtWalk on April 6th.
Chicas Bonitas started at the locally beloved Renaissance Antiques in Corpus Christi featuring only five artists. In its third year, the exhibition will feature over 70 professional, emerging, and area youth female artists curated by local artist, Mayra Zamora. Artists are asked to showcase artwork which best exhibits their unique style and perception. All women are unique and beautiful just like Art. The exhibition will run from March 20 through May 12, 2018 at La Retama Central Public Library. Come meet the artists during the “Meet the ARTists Reception” on April 21st 6:30-8:30pm. Reception will feature a female DJ, all female vendors, refreshments, and light hors d’oeuvre.
Becky Smith, a multi-media artist, will be presenting whimsical politically driven assemblages of found objects and paper collages.
